As the Township Engineer, Hanover Engineering assisted Jackson Township in the replacement of the existing bridge (shown below) crossing the Appenzell Creek on Center Road. The bridge had been damaged by floods in the previous years and finally required replacement after incurring heavy damage in 2006.
Hanover Engineering inspected the existing bridge and, taking into account the need to widen the bridge and provide upgraded guiderail, determined that the existing short-span crossing could be replaced easier and more economically using a pre-fabricated concrete arch culvert (shown to the right).
Understanding the Township’s need to replace the bridge as quickly as possible to accommodate local traffic and provide access to residents, Hanover Engineering quickly responded with a plan to expedite construction of the bridge replacement. Hanover Engineering proceeded to analyze the damaged structure and provide a bridge design, specifically prepared for ease of construction and requiring no special equipment to construct.
Following removal of the remaining elements of the original structure, Hanover Engineering inspected the existing site conditions and reviewed the requirements for the proposed bridge replacement and associated roadway work. In addition to providing the design drawings for the bridge replacement, Hanover Engineering obtained the required environmental permits, prepared cost estimates, and provided construction consultation during the course of the project.
