The bridge carrying Obie Road over the Hammer Creek in Heidelberg Township, Lebanon County had been recommended by the State for load posting in its recent inspection reports. As the appointed Engineer for Heidelberg Township, Hanover Engineering provided an in-depth analysis of the structure’s Safe Load Capacity, and designed and prepared plans for the required replacement of the superstructure.
Hanover Engineering’s analysis determined that the bridge could not be modified or repaired to meet full-load capacity, and that all of the existing beams needed to be replaced. Hanover Engineering prepared project drawings and specifications for the replacement of the beams and associated deck elements, as well as to incorporate recommended stream protection and anti-scour measures. Work included preparation of the environmental permit application, the structural design of the bridge, as well as construction observation and administration services. Hanover Engineering also assisted the Township in acquiring a low-interest loan through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Bank program.
Specific services provided for the design and construction of the bridge replacement project included:
- Environmental engineering, including permit preparation and environmental clearances
- Structural design and detail drafting
- Preparation of bid packages and contract documents
- Administrative support and construction observation throughout the course of the project
