Hanover Engineering assisted Upper Saucon Township with the reconstruction of approximately 2,000 linear feet of Preston Lane. Primary design focus involved incorporating the main entrances to both the Southern Lehigh Middle School and High School campuses that create an intersection along Preston Lane.
This project required engineering design, highway occupancy permitting, preparation of bid documents, assisting the township in project bidding, construction management, and construction oversight.
A roundabout design was chosen to help alleviate traffic congestion on Preston Lane occurring when staff, school students, and buses arrived in the mornings and departed during afternoon dismissals. This roundabout allows traffic to flow smoothly through the area at times of heavy school traffic, as well as accommodate the high-volume daily use associated with Preston Lane, connecting PA Route 378 (SR 0378) and Camp Meeting Road (SR 2049), just off the PA Route 309 (SR 0309) corridor.
This project also included construction of a walking path, regional stormwater facilities, underground stormwater detention facilities, relocation of natural gas lines, telecommunication lines and utility poles, and PennDOT improvements along Camp Meeting Road.
Construction of the project was phased over a two-year period to enable access to the school campuses during the months school was in session.
Hanover Engineering is proud to be part of one of the first roundabouts installed in the Lehigh Valley area.
